The Story So Far

My name is Hannah Phillips. Born with disabilities, I grew up with a lot of challenges in my day to day life. Having a physical disability and moving around in a wheelchair I was and am noticeably different. When times were tough I turned to my number one inspiration, soft toys for comfort; particularly teddy bears. A teddy bear can become what you make it. When you are struggling, you can give it a cuddle and you’ll be sure to receive one back. When you are happy, your best friend will always be there to share in your joy. When you are in pain, you teddy will do there best to make it all better. When you are lonely, a teddy bear will keep you company.

Having a disability isn’t all bad. I was lucky enough to be brought up with arts and crafts. Later on in life I experienced some mental health issues, and of all places this is where I started to develop my art. Putting paint to paper, so to speak, became therapy and I developed a passion. I later went on to do some art classes with a group of people that had disabilities too. This is where my dream of becoming an artist began. In my head and heart my teddy bears have come along for the ride, being my major inspiration along with my family pets. In my art I use a combination of mediums: acrylic paints, pastels and sometimes charcoal.
